About UsThis past February, Westmount teachers and student volunteers started a Breakfast Program twice a week to provide nutritious food to students.
Every Tuesday and Thursday your child can grab a healthy breakfast free of charge from the Breakfast Volunteers in the cafeteria, choosing from items like apples, yogurt, cereal, milk, and English Muffins etc. that are low in fat, high in nutrition and cover major food groups. After period 1 starts, food is moved to the main office for students signing in late. |
However, |
This is not a program just for lower-income students. We pride ourselves at Westmount in being inclusive and feel it is important for all students to feel comfortable accessing the Breakfast Program, whether they have a long journey on the bus before school, a very early sport or band practice, are unable to eat upon rising or are (in typical teenage fashion) running late. As teachers, we see the effect of no breakfast – low concentration and energy levels in class
|
We are receiving positive feedback on the breakfast program and are seeking parental and corporate donations in order to continue to offer it.
But it costs $131/day to run and our start-up grant will run out soon. |
